Gordon: I get to win no matter what happens “I love both schools and I get to win no matter what happens and cannot lose.”
This was Senator Richard Gordon’s reaction after the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons advanced to the UAAP 81 men’s basketball Finals.
Last Wednesday, UP bested Adamson University in the semi-finals round. The Fighting Maroons will face the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles in the finals.
Gordon said he cannot lose regardless of the outcome of the game as he graduated from the UP College of Law and has a bachelor’s degree in history and government from Ateneo.
“Whoever wins is, for all, a passing though glorious moment in life and I will savor it. I cannot lose because this great moment represents fighting values and spirit by the players and more important a welcome,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Gordon added both teams are from universities that claim a “high degree of intelligence, values, patriotism and competitiveness.”
The senator added that he is elated because he is a product of both schools, noting that the game must uphold sportsmanship and hard work.
“I am so elated that I am perhaps one of the few national leaders in the country today who come from both schools,” Gordon said.
“Let our people rejoice, enjoy the fiercest combat on the floor with sportsmanship and above all faith in our talents and skills and not just luck but hard work. Alors! The country wins!” /muf
